Two hundred canaries various colors and ages, worth around 3,000 euros were stolen from a aviary in Sotira village in the Famagusta district, police said on Sunday.
The thieves also injured a pitbull that was guarding the fenced area. The animal was treated and is said to be in good health.
According to police the 58-year-old owner of the plot reported that the theft had taken place between February 5 and 6.
The owner had no alarm or CCTV installed.
Police went to the scene to gather evidence and are investigating.
