A Nicosia motorist was found Thursday night to have nine times the acceptable alcohol level when breathalysed in Latsia.

The 31-year-old underwent the alcohol breath test, which resulted in a reading of 200μg the accepted limit being 22μg, after he was involved in an accident.

Nobody was injured in the collision which took place in Yianni Kranidioti Avenue. Under circumstances still being investigated, it appears the man drove into the back of a car driven by a Nicosia woman. Following the initial crash, the man’s vehicle then rolled backwards, smashing into another vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man.

Following the result of the preliminary breathalyser test, the man was taken to the traffic section of Nicosia police where he undertook a final breath test in which he did not give an adequate sample of breath.

Police transported the man to his home and intend to summon him later.
