A man was arrested and detained on Thursday night in connection with possession of cocaine and carrying a knife, while warrants for his arrest for burglaries and thefts in the Nicosia area were also pending.
Police say that around 6.20pm they attempted to stop and check the car the 33-year old was driving on the Ayias Trimithias to Nicosia road, something they did not succeed in doing as he hit two police cars and sped off.
He was spotted a little later in Grivas Dhigenis Avenue in Engomi by members of the rapid reaction force (MMAD) who signaled him to stop, again fruitlessly as he tried to get away, this time colliding with a car driven by a 47-year-old woman before coming to a standstill after hitting a tree.
Following a search of the vehicle, police discovered 0.2 grammes of a white powder, believed to be cocaine as well as a pointed 9 cm long knife.
The suspect was slightly injured in the collision and taken for first aid to A&E at Nicosia General Hospital before being detained.
