Famagusta court remanded a 27-year-old man for seven days on Tuesday after police caught him carrying €1,250 in counterfeit notes.

Early in the morning, police received a complaint and found the suspect at a bar at 1:30am.

A bar employee said the suspect had paid for his order with a €50 note that seemed fake.

Once police confirmed it was counterfeit they searched him and found his front pocket contained 25 counterfeit €50 notes.

He was arrested on the spot.

A search in his home found a further 55 counterfeit €50 notes.

The 27-year-old, who works as a barman at an Ayia Napa hotel, admitted he bought the false cash from Bulgaria.
