Authorities are set to deport the three Norwegian nationals suspected of coming to Cyprus with the intent to kidnap a four-year-old girl from her mother.
The three, aged 29, 40 and 60, have not been charged, as police investigators were unable to gather sufficient evidence to bring a case against them.
However they are to be deported as they are considered a risk to public safety.
The same goes for the 38-year-old Filipino national, who used to work as a housemaid for the Cypriot mother of the child. She was believed to have been in touch with the Norwegian father of the girl, thought to have orchestrated the alleged attempted abduction.
Earlier this month police detained the three Norwegians on suspicion that, acting at the father’s behest, they were conspiring to kidnap the girl.
The three had arrived in Cyprus via the north and were arrested while crossing to the government-controlled areas at Ayios Dhometios in Nicosia.
In the men’s possession police found several maps of Nicosia, which were marked with the locations of the kindergarten the girl attended, as well as her mother’s house and workplace.
The suspects denied the kidnapping accusation, claiming they were here to pick up a car belonging to the girl’s Norwegian father and take it back to him, via the occupied areas and then through Turkey.
The four-year-old lives with her mother, who separated from her ex-husband a few years ago.
The couple had married in Norway in 2012 but after they separated, the mother returned to the island with her daughter.
