Hefty fine for illegal tobacco

Authorities on Tuesday evening arrested a 45-year-old who was found to be in possession of illegally imported tobacco.

Searching his house in the Moutallas area, members of the customs department and Paphos police found 88 cartons of cigarettes and just over a kilo of tobacco for which duty had not been paid.

The 45-year-old was arrested and the tobacco products were seized.

The man pleaded guilty and was released after paying a fine of €5,500.
