Teacher arrested after child said he was hit

Police arrested a teacher late on Friday in connection with hitting a 10-year-old pupil at a primary school in Sotira, Famagusta.

Police said the incident was reported to them on Friday afternoon. The pupil, accompanied by his father, told officers that his 40-year-old teacher had hit him earlier in the day.

The 10-year-old was taken to Famagusta hospital where doctors found he had bruises on his face and back.

Police arrested the teacher late on Friday. He was expected to be released – to be summoned later – after giving a statement.
