Woman arrested in car ownership wrangle

A 47-year-old woman from Paphos, who had reported her car stolen, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly lying to the police about the theft.

According to police, the woman reported early in the week that her car had been stolen. Following investigations, police located the vehicle on Thursday and arrested a 39-year-old. The man claimed he had bought the car from another person, a 49-year-old man.

But when questioned, he said he had not stolen the car either but had been given it by the female owner who had asked him to sell it for her.

The two men were remanded on Friday for three days and the woman is expected to appear before court later on Saturday.
